The Parish Council

Parish Councils are the first tier of local government. Bar Hill Parish Council covers the village of Bar Hill. Bar Hill Parish Council consists of 13 Parish Councillors. Parish councils have powers to provide facilities themselves, or they can contribute towards facilities provided by others. In Bar Hill, the Parish Council directly provides services such as the maintaining the environment with grass cutting of open spaces, tree maintenance and brook upkeep, playgrounds, community benches and providing and servicing litter bins. It also supports services provided by others, for example the Village Hall, Garden Allotments, the Tennis Courts, the Astro Football Pitch as well coordinating with the South Cambridgeshire District Council for Planning and with the County Council for path and road maintenance and for the traffic management. The Parish Council owns the Viking Way and as such is responsible for providing road, drain and lamppost maintenance. The Parish Council is funded through part of the Council Tax but also receives income from leasing the Farmhouse near the village school and by applying for grants.
